Academy of Hope's mission is to provide high quality adult basic education in a manner that changes lives and improves our community. 

Our Values

Since its beginning in 1985, the Academy of Hope has been powered by adult learners, volunteers, donors and staff who are dedicated to building one of the most respected not-for-profit organizations in the Washington, D.C., area. Our award-winning program has become a model for adult literacy programs in the region.

Academy of Hope’s core values guide our decisions and our work:

• Support: Academy of Hope creates a supportive and caring community that allows students to feel comfortable and able to focus on their learning.
• Empowerment: We give students the tools and support they need to feel confident about returning to the classroom.
• Commitment: We never give up on our students. We work with them in the classroom and one-on-one until their learning goals are met.
• Personal Attention: We take the time to get to know each individual, and together, we set a course for learning that is right for them.

• Results: Academy of Hope is focused on results. We follow strict state standards and measure success by each student who achieves his or her personal goal, whether that is testing for a higher level of literacy or passing the GED.
• History: Academy of Hope has been teaching Washington-area adults since 1985, longer than most other schools in the region.
