Marcus Scott, Board President
Marcus joined the Academy of Hope board of directors in 2004. He is an award-winning entrepreneur and social justice advocate. He has been recognized for outstanding nongovernmental organization (NGO) and communications efforts locally, nationally and internationally. He is a sought-after communications strategist with a proven track record of successfully integrating marketing tactics and media technologies across sectors. Marcus' communication experience started in the nonprofit and human rights world, where he fostered unlearning racism across generations, expanded international human rights protections and helped rethink organizational development assumptions. He continues to emphasize innovative and results-oriented communication approaches as managing partner of Metamorphosis Media.
Marcus founded Metamorphosis Media with a commitment to offer affordable interactive media services across industries and to begin communicating counter-narratives to the "official narratives" typically offered in mainstream media, entertainment and traditional marketing methodologies. Two things have marked Marcus' career, both in the public and private sectors: 1) his ability to transform complex messages into a simple big idea and 2) his total respect for the consumer: "If you focus on what they want, you can engage and motivate them."
In addition to Academy of Hope, Marcus is a member of a number of boards for organizations including Mosaica: The Center for Nonprofit Development and Pluralism, the Domestic Violence Legal Empowerment and Appeals Project (DVLEAP), Dwight Hall at Yale and WHUT: Howard University Television.
