Academy of Hope in Washington, DC
receives $200,000 Grant from Oprah's Angel Network

CHICAGO, IL -- In continuing efforts to help non-profit organizations that provide aid to women, children and families, Oprah's Angel Network has presented the Academy of Hope in Washington, DC with an Angel Network Award of $200,000. This grant will support the renovation of a new office location.

Academy of Hope is an adult literacy program that offers tutoring, computer skills training, and education classes to improve hope and opportunities available to low income, under-educated, immigrant and at-risk adults in the Washington, DC area. The Academy holds GED classes to assist people in obtaining their high school diploma and also offers a program that gives credit for significant life experiences. It also has a computer lab, offering computer classes to help adult learners acquire the basic computer skills needed to get a better job. The Academy services more than 400 adults each year. Oprah's Angel Network was established in 1997 on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to encourage people around the world to make a difference in the lives of others. Oprah's vision is to inspire individuals to create opportunities that help people rise to their own potential.
